Twined knitted mittens - Inspiration from Finland

Twined knitted mittens - yarn from Wålstedts
These are mittens that I finished yesterday. I used yarn from Wålstedts. I had some left-overs from previous projects that I wanted to put to use. On needles 2.00 mm (US 0) I got a gauge of 40 stitches to 10 cm  (4 inches). In total I used just over 130 grams of yarn.

I have one book with mittens from Finland that has some very nice patterns in it. I have considered using some pattern from the book many times. So I decided that this was the time.

The book is "Sata Kansanomaista Kuviokudinmallia" by Eeva Haavisto. I think that it was first released in 1947 or 1953. I have an edition from 2008 that I bought on the internet. I have never seen this for sale in a shop in Sweden.

This book is loaded with nice patterns for mittens, very inspirational. These patterns are not knitted with twined knitting originally. But I let myself be inspired by nice patterns the way knitters always have adapted inspiration from all over the world. I made some changes and chose a set of colours from my stash.

  3. Gratulerar till att ha lyckats skriva den krångliga titeln helt rätt! Men vad vet jag, kanske du har finska rötter? ;)

  6. This book is very popular among Finns knitters. I have the old version, but fortunately this was reprint, which sold out quickly. You are lucky to one of this famousbook. I actually knitted mittens many of its models. The old traditional designs in different locations in Finland. I have also used socks knitting patterns book.

  7. Hej, skulle så gärna vilja sticka dessa, men hur gör du tumkilen så att mönstret stämmer hela vägen? och hur har du gjort den snygga kanten?
